Universidad de San Andrés is a small, private liberal arts university in Buenos Aires, Argentina and they are our partner for the Summer Language and Culture in Buenos Aires, Argentina program. Through our partnership, we are able to offer SPAN 424 in January.
Class will be Monday-Friday from January 4-29, 2021 from 1:00pm-2:30pm (central time) with a 10-minute break. There will not be class on January 18th and class on the 19th, 20th, and 21st will be 30 minutes longer.
The course content will be focused on Argentina language and culture including the use of vos, the pronunciation found in Argentina called yeísmo, slang, customs and traditions including regional differences, tango, famous neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, inclusive language, and diversity and inclusion.
The course will include guest lectures, clips and short films, analysis of song lyrics, writing practice, online discussions, and grammar review and practice outside of Zoom class time.
SPAN 424 is a 3-credit course and a requirement for both the Spanish major and minor.
Open to students who have completed SPAN 340. Minimum 2.5 GPA. Exceptions considered after submission of a petition.
