The following scholarships are open to students who meet the criteria below. Please use the scholarship application link to apply for these scholarships.

Allan W. Wicker and Edna Elnar-Wicker Study Abroad Scholarship
Funding provided with the generous support of Allan W. Wicker and Edna Elnar-Wicker.  Awards are designed to assist degree-seeking undergraduate KU students with demonstrated financial need or high academic merit to participate in semester-long, single country study abroad programs through SIT Study Abroad in conjunction with the University of Kansas’ Office of Study Abroad.  Eligible students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA and have applied to an eligible SIT program.  One $10,000 scholarship will be awarded annually. Deadline to apply for the Academic Year application cycle is March 1 for Fall, or Spring programs. Carl C. Krehbiel and L. Neil Slentz German Language Summer Institute Scholarship
Fund created with the generous contribution of Carl Krehbiel to provide support for KU degree-seeking undergraduate students attending the German Summer Language Institute programs in Holzkirchen and Eutin, Germany.  Minimum 2.5 GPA requirement.  Awards up to $4,000. Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies Study Abroad Scholarships
The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) offers several awards of approximately $500.​ Students must be KU degree-seeking undergraduates who have applied to a program for an academic year, semester, or summer (minimum four weeks) and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  The Anita Herzfeld Award, honors Anita Herzfeld, professor emerita of Latin American and Caribbean Studies, former director of the Office of Study Abroad and beloved teacher and noted linguist, who retired in 2012 after working to expand international education for KU students during a distinguished career spanning more than fifty years. The award is for study in any Latin American country.  The Lawrence G. and Nanette Pascal Scholarship is made by Larry Pascal in honor of his parents, who always supported his learning about new cultures. The award is for study in a Spanish-speaking country. The Less Commonly Taught Languages Scholarships give first priority to students wishing to travel to Latin America or the Caribbean to learn a less commonly taught and/or indigenous language (e.g. Miskitu in Nicaragua, Haitian Creole, etc.).   To be considered for any of these scholarships, apply online: https://ku.studioabroad.com/?go=CLACS


Cheryle A. & Burton MacKenzie Study Abroad Scholarship for Psychology Majors
Funding provided by the generous support of Cheryle A. & Burton MacKenzie through the KU Psychology Department. This scholarship (approximately $1000) is open to Psychology majors who are participating in a semester-long study abroad experience. Preference given to students studying at the National University of Singapore, University of Wollongong, University of New South Wales, Danish Institute for Study Abroad-Copenhagen, University of Birmingham, University of Leicester, University of Kent, or University of Exeter. Christine Pederson Fund for the ISS at the University of Oslo
Funding provided with the generous support of Christine Pederson, KU alumnus and former participant in the International Summer School at the University of Oslo, in Oslo, Norway. This scholarship provides financial support of up to $5,000 to KU degree-seeking students to participate in the International Summer School (ISS) at the University of Oslo. CIEE Global Institutes Scholarship
In an effort to support the Institute of International Education’s Generation Study Abroad initiative, CIEE will award a total of 5 grants at $5,000 each for participation in a Spring 2018 CIEE Global Institute (3 blocks) in Berlin, Cape Town, London, Madrid, Paris, or Rome.  These scholarships are open to KU degree-seeking undergraduate students and if selected the grants will be awarded as program fee reductions to the students' CIEE bill. Costa Rica Early Start Program Scholarship
Funding provided with the generous support of Richard Paegelow, KU alumnus and former participant of the San Jose, Costa Rica study abroad program.  Awards are designed to assist KU undergraduate students who can benefit from the month-long Early Start program to strengthen language and cultural adaptation skills in anticipation of semester study at Universidad de Costa Rica.  Minimum 3.0 GPA requirement.  Awards total $1,200. Department of French, Francophone, and Italian Studies - Study Abroad Scholarship
The Department of French, Francophone, and Italian Studies will be awarding multiple scholarships each term. This scholarship is open to KU degree-seeking undergraduate students who have applied to an academic year, semester or summer study abroad program in a French or Italian speaking country where a majority of classes taken abroad are in Italian or French Studies and are transferrable as FFIT credit. Department of French, Francophone, and Italian Studies - Clyde E. Jacobs Scholarship
Clyde E. Jacobs (January 19th, 1924—June 23rd, 2009) completed his undergraduate degree at KU, and his MA and PhD at the University of Michigan. In 1952 he joined the Department of Political Science at UC Davis, where he taught for many years, and was especially dedicated to undergraduate education. He provided funds to assist French majors studying in France for the academic year. The Department of French, Francophone, and Italian Studies will be awarding one non-renewable study abroad award of $10,000 in honor of Clyde E. Jacobs. Drs. Dean T. and Elisabeth Collins Study Abroad Scholarship
Fund created by estate gift from the late Dean and Elisabeth Collins.  Awards up to $10,000 for students on semester or $20,000 for year long programs to Germany.  Open to all majors but preference for students studying music and particularly opera.  Minimum 2.5 GPA requirement. Freeman East Asia Internship Scholarship
International internships are powerfully transformative experiences, enabling students to connect their academic discipline with the professional sphere, gain hands-on experiences, learn (and apply) a global perspective to their trade, develop soft skills in high demand by future employers, and network with industry leaders.  Through the generous support of the Freeman Foundation, the KU Office of Study Abroad is able to award 30 or more scholarships in the amount of $5,000 to KU undergraduate or graduate students participating in summer or semester-length, credit-bearing internships of six weeks duration or longer in one of the following Asian countries: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand or Vietnam.  Scholarship funds support students participating in KU-administered internship programs in China and Korea, as well as programs offered through partner organizations or self-arranged internships.  Recipients must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.  All recipients will be required to complete a follow-on project upon return from their overseas internship.  Priority deadline to apply for summer, fall, or academic year awards is January 15th, 2016. ISEP - Andrew Debicki Scholarship
Funds provided with generous support of Mary-Elizabeth Debicki Guinness, former Director of the KU Office of Study Abroad and former wife of Andrew Debicki. Awards up to $2,000 for degree-seeking undergraduate students on ISEP direct exchange programs. Joan Fowler Kessler Watkins Women Study Abroad Scholarship
Funds provided with generous support of the Honorable Judge Joan Fowler Kessler. One $500 scholarship will be awarded annually. Open only to Watkins Scholarship Hall residents who will live in Watkins hall before and after the study abroad program, have demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA, must have completed foreign language coursework at KU relevant to her study abroad program and must have applied to a summer, semester or academic year study abroad program in a country in which English is not the primary language. Kevin and Joann Nunnink Scholarship
Funds provided with generous support of Kevin and Joann Nunnink. Recipients must be undergraduate student participants in the St. Lawrence Catholic Campus Center, have demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA, and graduated high school from a metropolitan area under 75,000 in population in Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Oklahoma, Iowa, Arkansas or Nebraska. School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures - Lutz and McLean Study Away Scholarship
Funds provided with generous support of David Lutz, PhD and Ellen Scott McLean. Either one $1,000 or two $500 scholarships will be awarded annually. This fellowship is open to KU undergraduate students studying a language at KU other than English that is not their first language and for whom the study abroad experience will be their first opportunity to spend a significant time living abroad and using the language of study. Minimum GPA of 2.5 overall, completion of fourth semester of the language of study (with B avg. or better) by the time of the program, and 2.8 in the major. Preference will be given to students majoring or minoring in the language of study, when such a major/minor is available. Apply online: https://ku.studioabroad.com/?go=SLLCScholarship

University of Hong Kong Study Abroad Scholarship
Funds provided with generous support of Richard Paegelow, KU study abroad alumnus. This scholarship is open to KU degree-seeking undergraduate students to study at the University of Hong Kong through the KU Office of Study Abroad. Recipients must have successfully completed at least one semester of a Chinese language course prior to the Study Abroad program, meet the eligibility requirements of the University of Hong Kong, and enroll in one or more Chinese course(s) while at

To learn more about your study abroad options, we encourage you to visit the Study Abroad Info Center (105 Lippincott Hall). The Study Abroad Info Center offers walk-in advising for current and prospective students. Drop by to learn more about program options, make an appointment with a study abroad program coordinator, get information on scholarships and financial aid, and talk to returned study abroad students. We also encourage you to explore the resources available on our website to learn more about the application process, KU Core Approved programs, and the cost of study abroad.

Study Abroad Financial Advising
The Office of Study Abroad has weekly 'You Can Afford to Study Abroad' Financial Aid and Scholarship Info Sessions/Open Meetings on Wednesday afternoons at 4:00 pm and Thursday afternoons at 2:00 pm in the Info Center (105 Lippincott Hall). The financial aid officer will be happy to take any questions and can offer individual advising at the end of sessions for specific concerns. For those that cannot attend the weekly Info Sessions due to scheduling conflicts, we also offer appointments for financial planning as well as financial aid and scholarship advising for students. Please visit 108 Lippincott Hall or call 785-864-3742 to set up an appointment.
