Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne is one of the largest universities in France with approximately 40,000 students. Paris 1 is one of the few descendants of the Sorbonne, one of the earliest universities in the world. At the cross-roads of tradition and modernity, it aims to be a major pole of research and learning in Europe in the 21st century. Welcoming thousands of international students every year, Paris I is at the forefront of research and teaching across its 3 disciplinary areas: economics and management, arts and humanities, and law and political science.

Each semester starts with a 2 week orientation called Welcome Days. This provides international students an opportunity to take and an intensive French language course, be introduced to the different campus services, get involved in campus clubs, and meet local students.

Students have the opportunity to take courses in English in the areas of Economics and Math. Students with advanced French language (level B2 or higher on the DELF/DALF, TEF or TCF) will be able to take courses from across the universities departments including Philosophy, Art History, Law, Management, Geography, and more! The university offers optional intensive French language courses to exchange students prior to the start of each semester during Welcome Days orientation.

Courses and grades will be posted as KU equivalents on your KU transcript and grades will figure into your KU GPA. The relevant KU academic department will make the final decision regarding posting of credit and grades, and their application toward graduation.

Undergraduate and Graduate Economics and Mathematics students are encouraged to meet with Dr. Bernard Cornet in the KU Department of Economics to discuss their academic plan for their semester abroad at Paris 1.  Dr. Cornet can advise on course selection, equivalent credits at KU, the academic environment abroad, and many other aspects of studying at Paris 1.  Dr. Cornet can be contacted at cornet@ku.edu.

Housing will need to be found by the student independently. Paris 1 does have some housing options within the university residence halls, but spaces are very limited. Paris 1's Accommodation in Paris webpage provides more information about housing options, partner housing organizations, and contact for their housing department.
