Global Scholars Prepares Future Leaders
Components

Innovative Leaders
Global Scholars selects highly motivated sophomores with an interest in international studies for a unique educational experience. The program emphasizes intercultural learning opportunities and faculty-mentored research to empower Scholars to make discoveries in a worldwide context.

Seminar
The interdisciplinary seminar serves as the foundation for the program, challenging students to better understand global issues, strengthen critical thinking skills, and begin their internationally focused research. A different KU professor teaches the specially designed course each spring.

Faculty-Mentored Research
The Global Scholars Director works with students to identify a research mentor. Through this project, Scholars gain hands-on research experience, test their problem-solving capabilities, and develop strong references. They present their research at the Global Scholars Symposium.

Symposium
The Global Scholars Symposium is the culminating event that allows the KU community to explore the research of these talented and engaged undergraduate students. Scholars have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, professors, and scientists, among diverse career paths.

Participating in Global Scholars challenged me to think about research and science from a global perspective, something I hadn’t considered deeply before. It broadened my understanding of how international contexts shape scientific priorities, access to resources, and health outcomes.
