ISS Orientation

International Support Services (ISS) offers a week-long orientation for new international students called "You at KU" that is designed to help ease your transition into life in the United States and at the University of Kansas. The orientation usually begins about ten days before the first day of classes and includes many useful topics such as:

  • the enrollment process at KU
  • what to expect in a U.S. classroom
  • cultural adjustment
  • accessing healthcare in the U.S.
  • safety at KU
  • an Information Fair showcasing a variety of local activities
  • all required check-in procedures that must be completed prior to enrollment

Because this is such an important opportunity, we require all new international students to participate, so please plan your travel accordingly.

Temporary Housing

If you arrive before orientation begins in the fall semester, the residence hall designated for orientation housing typically opens several days prior to when orientation begins so that students can stay there for a nominal nightly fee.  For students starting at KU in the spring semester, orientation housing does not open until the day that orientation begins so you will need to secure temporary housing.

Lawrence has a wide variety of hotels and motels. Rates can vary greatly. For more information on Lawrence hotels, please Visit Lawrence.  Sharing a room with another student will lower your cost. Mention that you are a new KU International student and you may receive a discount.
