Getting Started with Study Abroad

We know there is a lot to consider when determining what study abroad program(s) will be the best fit for you. Study Abroad & Global Engagement offers 165+ programs in more than 70 countries with opportunities for every major.

With so many options available to students at KU, it can be hard to identify the best place to start planning, but we're here to help!

The best place to start is to visit our SAGE Info Center for drop-in advising. During drop-in advising, you have the opportunity to meet with one of our many student peer advisors. Each of our student staff members has studied abroad, and they are eager to share their experiences with you.

Our team is trained to help prospective students navigate the process of preparing to study abroad and to help you answer some of the key questions to identify the program(s) that meet your academic, professional, and personal objectives. Below are some things our team can help you with during drop-in advising.

  • Understanding what studying abroad is and the many opportunities available to you.
  • Discussing what factors are important to you in your study abroad journey. Such as where you want to go, what credits you're planning to take, how long you want to go abroad, and what style of program is the best fit for you.
  • Researching programs and answering questions about academics, housing, costs and funding, eligibility, and more.
  • Finding scholarships and exploring the various funding opportunities to help pay for your study abroad experience.
  • Helping you walk through the process of filling out your study abroad program application and scholarship application, including help with the Academic Plan and Approval form.
  • Getting you connected to a program coordinator to provide further information once you've selected a program or region.

Visit us to learn more about all of the opportunities available to you! No appointment or knowledge of study abroad is required to come by and talk to us about your options.
