KU Global Scholars

2023 class of Global Scholars

KU’s Global Scholars Program selects highly motivated sophomores with an interest in international studies for a unique educational experience. The program emphasizes intercultural learning opportunities and faculty-mentored research in preparing Scholars to become innovative leaders and thoughtful global citizens.

The interdisciplinary seminar serves as the foundation for the Global Scholars program. The specially designed course will focus on a different theme each year. It is taught by a faculty member with broad international expertise and challenges students to better understand global issues, strengthen critical thinking skills, and begin their internationally focused undergraduate research. Through a combination of readings and discussion, students will examine these larger themes of the program. Class will meet once a week for three hours during the spring semester of their sophomore year.

During their first year in the program, Scholars are paired with a faculty mentor for an original, internationally focused research project. Through this project, Scholars gain hands-on research experience, test their problem-solving capabilities, and develop strong references. In the spring of their senior year, Scholars present their research at the Global Scholars Symposium.

Networking events each semester allow cohorts to interact with one another and faculty across campus. Guest speakers discuss cultural competence, leadership skills, and other important topics for career success.
